Cosmetic
restoration returns your windows to their original look and condition.
The sashes are removed from
the window frames and taken to the shop.
The old putty and
glass is removed; old paint stripped to the bare wood.
Repairs are made to the sash using epoxy or replacement
components if damage is severe. (see examples)
The sash are sanded smooth and primed for finish painting.
The original glass is bedded and reputtied. Any broken panes are
replaced with period recovered glass.
Two finish coats of paint interior and exterior are applied and the sash are now ready to be reinstalled.
When the restored sash are installed and the mechanical
restoration completed you have a window system that will last for many
more decades with only minor maintenance.
